In 1978, at the age of 15, Darrell Heath began employment with a small company that built and installed mobility equipment for
the physically challenged. This job was to become a venture driven by the needs of those that are physically challenged, and a
dedication to fulfill their needs.
Sixteen years later, in 1994, Darrell formed Ability Center and opened his first store in San Diego, California. He dedicated
his venture to helping the physically challenged elevate their quality of life through increased mobility. After sixteen years
of service and dedication his mission statement was born.
In June 1997, Ability Center was selected by Entrepreneur Magazine / Dun & Bradstreet as the 41st fastest growing, privately
owned small business in the United States. This vision of Ability Center is to recognized as the Southwest's preferred
provider of the highest quality mobility equipment and service for the physically challenged. In keeping with this vision and
the company's continued rapid growth rate, a second store in Orange County, California was opened in 2000. By 2003, the Las
Vegas store was opened up to serve the State of Nevada. On March 1, 2006, the company opened its fourth location in Phoenix,
Arizona.
This success is based on the shared value that Darrell and the entire Ability Center team sincerely believe in -- at Ability
Center, the customer really does come first.
